A damning new economic study by the University of Warwick’s CAGE centre shows Fife’s GDP in 2018 was 10.23% lower than projected had the UK not voted to leave the EU, amounting to a loss of £726.5 million, or £1953.46 per person.
This is particularly concerning given the potential for a ‘no-deal Brexit’ at the end of the year, on top of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
Scotland voted 62% to 38% to remain in the EU and at the last election more that 80% of North East Fife supported parties that opposed Brexit, yet we’re already taking a huge economic hit for something that was decisively rejected. The SNP will continue to fight locally and nationally for Scotland’s place in Europe.
