Land reform is not just associated with the Highlands and Islands. Over the last few years since the SNP successfully introduced the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 and Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016, increasing numbers of organizations in other parts of Scotland have been successful in securing community ownership of land and buildings for community benefit.
In the East Neuk in recent years we have seen several groups successfully access the Scottish Government’s Community Land Fund to purchase these community assets. This includes the purchase of Earlsferry Town Hall for a community hub, Boarhills and Dunino Community Trust and their plans to restore the doocot and associated land into green space; ,the purchase of St David’s Building in St.Andrews by North East Fife Community Hub and finally, a recent example by Crail Community Partnership to purchase Crail Community Hall
