Thank you to everybody who supported me and backed my campaign. My campaign increased the SNP vote by well over 3,000 votes and is the highest number of votes an SNP candidate has ever won in North East Fife. Thank you for your votes and your support but I am sorry that we did not get the result that we wanted. It falls upon the victor to represent everybody in North East Fife regardless of how, or if, they voted. I would prefer that that was my responsibility but it was not to be.What happens next, however, is up to us. The people of Scotland. Democracy is a beautiful thing and if you believe in it you must not simply allow it, but you must enable it to take place. I am proud of, and grateful to, everybody who supported me in this campaign. Support for the SNP is at hitherto unseen heights and, on the regional vote in North East Fife, the SNP polled the largest number of votes of all the Parties. This is all thanks to the hard work of excellent activists who got behind me and supported my campaign fully. We ran a good campaign standing *for* something, based on what I would do for North East Fife and what the SNP would do for Scotland. This was a good result for the SNP, just not the one that we wanted or the one that we worked for. Nationally, however, the SNP has done even better and is on course to form the next Scottish Government in a pro-independence majority Parliament. Post-Covid, I look forward to campaigning in North East Fife, again, on the independence referendum and this time winning it.
